Meteorological station locations
Meteorological station locations
Comprehensive meteorological measurements are taken by the Hilbre Island weather station situated at the outer part of the Dee Estuary.

It is more representative of local coastal conditions than the Bidston site. This weather station has now replaced the Bidston Observatory weather station.

Hilbre Island weather station was renewed on 10 February 2010.

Liverpool weather station
Today's (including the latest measurements), the last 24 hours and the last seven days of measurements. The weather station is located on top of the Proudman Building on the University of Liverpool campus, near to Earth Sciences. Please note that wind averages are lower than reality due to the gustiness of the location.

Bidston Observatory measurements
This station has now ceased to take measurements (26th Nov 2004) due to the POL relocation to Liverpool.

Gladstone Lock measurements
Currently damaged. This weather station will not be replaced due to problems of access to the location.

Record Number
Barometric pressure (mb)
Wind speed (m/s)
Wind Direction (degrees e.g. An angle of 0 degrees is a wind coming from the North)
Humidity (%)
Air temperature (degrees centigrade)
Solarity (W/m2)
PAR (micro mol/m^2/s)
Rainfall (mm)

Time (hrs, min)

Rainfall (mm)
Wind gust (m/s)
Battery voltage (V)

Important data notes:
1. The rain gauge was off-line between 18th January and 27th April 2005. Data values were recorded as zero values.
2. There is evidence from the data that the rain gauge has been over reading during the windiest periods. This would suggest that the unit is being shaken to the extent that tips are being registered. We have added extra supports to try and prevent this from happening, however if it continues we may have to move the gauge lower down on the tower.
3. Wind sensor was damaged and gradually failed from the 18th December 2009 until 10 February 2010 when replaced.
4. Rain gauged partially blocked by bird droppings (noted on 10 February 2010).
